Dear Valued Patient,
For those of you that do not know, 5 years ago I was in a terrible boating accident where the driver was drunk and our boat hit a pier at 30+ MPH. I have very little memory of the event. My last memory was 30 minutes prior to the accident and the next memory formed was about 10 hours later when I woke up in the ER. After all said and done I was diagnosed with a fractured eye orbit and a severe concussion. While all the doctors said I was fine and lucky to be alive, I still felt different like something was wrong. I thought they were wrong because I noticed that my ears were plugged, my eyes were sensitive to all lights at all times, brain fog, mental fatigue, inability to handle stress, easy to anger, sleep became difficult, school became harder and the most apparent, moderate low back pain that would not go away. I noticed the lower back pain first as it was the most obvious and the other symptoms showed when I went to do things down the road.
So I did what any Chiropractor would do…I called all my friends and tried numerous techniques and soft tissue treatments. While some worked better than others none seemed to have a big effect that gave a lasting relief to my lower back pain. Since lower back pain was my only major concern at the time many of my treatments were geared towards the lower back but none seemed to be the answer. Then this year a friend that has been trying to get me to come in for years told me to give his upper cervical technique a try even though my pain was in the lower back. After a set of specialized upper cervical imaging (CBCT) it was evident I had numerous subluxations (miss-alignments) in my upper neck that were putting pressure on my brain stem and not allowing for proper CSF flow. Once I was thoroughly evaluated and my films were reviewed, my chiropractor developed a care plan for me to follow. It was at this point that I received my first ever specific upper cervical adjustment and my life changed that day. Now, not everyone will have the profound effect that I felt but over time everyone will heal to a certain degree. How much this treatment will help you is dependent on two things, time and matter. Time, meaning how long we have as healing takes time.
Matter being the materials our bodies provide for healing, as we can only work with the building blocks that are provided. I was lucky I have been under traditional chiropractic care for about 9 years however, I still went through the ups and downs throughout the treatment. At the same time, I could see many areas of my life improving. The most significant improvement was that my low back pain subsided for the first time in 5 years, my mood and stress handling abilities improved and my ability to study easily returned. My life today almost 10 months later is completely different and better in many ways and people around me are noticing as well.
I knew I needed to dig a little deeper to grasp the profound effect this technique had on my body before I started providing this care to my patients. As I learned more, the hardest thing for me was, why doesn’t everyone know this information and how do I get it out to everyone? The things I have learned in this past year have turned my life upside down and in a good way. Brain deterioration is a very serious thing and we are seeing more concussions, brain injury, dementia, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, multiple sclerosis diagnosis every day. There is a ton of research going into cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) flow and its implication on brain health. Simply put, CSF cleans the brain and without proper flow the metabolic waste builds up (kind of like not throwing out the garbage) and that leaves an undesirable environment and inflames the brain. With a thorough and detailed neurological exam and we can find a baseline for the status of your nervous system and then at 3 month intervals reassess for progress. These assessments will also gauge the success of the treatment. This treatment is not based on how the patient is feeling more so about the health of the nervous system. So that is why most care plans for upper cervical care start at 6 months because healing takes time. We reevaluate in 3 month intervals because we want to give the body time to heal.
There is so much more we can talk about and I encourage you to call the office 585-385-5870 If you want to know how this technique can benefit, you call to schedule a free 10 minute one on one neurological consult.
One last thing before I let you go! I have also been doing nutrition now for a few years and it was also a big reason why I healed the way that I have. So if a person can put together upper cervical specific evaluation, full spine and extremity assessment and nutritional evaluations the healing potential grows exponentially. Stay tuned as there will be some exciting things coming down the line in the next few months at One Life Chiropractic. We are planning fun activities throughout 2018 that will allow us to engage with our community and create comradery to make being healthy easier. We are looking to teach people how to turn on health and learn the healing wonders that that body possesses if we get out of its way!
Yours in Health,Jon
“Dr. Jon made my visit very comfortable being this was my first time seeing a chiropractor. Learned a lot about myself today. A great experience overall indeed and Dr. Jon is super cool and down to earth as well. Truly appreciate the service and will be returning regularly.”
“I had my first appointment with Dr. Jon today, and I’m amazed with his knowledge and professionalism. I left the office feeling re-aligned and relaxed. I’ll definitely be back!”
“I have always been afraid of going to a chiropractor. Then came the day when I could no longer stand the back leg and neck pain. So upon my son’s advice I went to see Dr. Jon. So glad I did, I have not felt this good in years. Am I still afraid to go to the chiropractor office? You can bet your sweet bippy I am, but I feel better and will continue to go.”
